Marymount Academy International Opens Its Doors for a Night of Discovery
By Alena Hamlett
What better way to discover a school than to experience it through the eyes of its students?
On September 30, Marymount Academy International in NDG welcomed prospective students and their families for its 2026 Open House, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the school, meet students and staff, and discover some of the programs and activities that make Marymount unique.
From the moment guests arrived, Marymount students played a starring role.
Students Leading the Way
The evening began with Marymount’s Leadership students guiding families through the school. Instead of simply walking through hallways and classrooms, visitors were given a firsthand look at student life at Marymount.
Throughout the tours, prospective students and their parents stopped at designated classrooms where current students were ready to share their work.
In the science areas, visitors watched students demonstrate experiments and showcase projects they had completed. Marymount’s Science and Technology program encourages students to develop their scientific and technological knowledge through laboratory activities, projects and hands-on learning. The school also hosts an annual Science Fair, giving students an opportunity to showcase some of their work.
Music, Creativity and a Little Friendly Competition
There was plenty happening outside the science classrooms, too.
Marymount’s music students became teachers for the evening, giving prospective students a chance to try their hand at music. The school’s music program combines performance with areas such as songwriting and digital music production, while giving students opportunities to perform as part of a concert band.
Meanwhile, Marymount’s archery students drew plenty of attention as they demonstrated their precision skills for visitors. Archery is among the athletic activities offered at Marymount, along with opportunities in sports such as basketball, badminton, soccer and futsal.
And then there were the cookies!
This year, Marymount students showed that school spirit can also come fresh out of the oven. Students put their pastry skills to work in Marymount’s own Fresh Fusion Bistro, baking cookies for Open House guests to enjoy while exploring the school.
Needless to say, that was one demonstration visitors were probably happy to sample!
More Than a Tour
The Open House gave families more than a look inside classrooms. It offered a glimpse of the many ways students can learn, participate and grow at Marymount.
The school offers a range of academic programs including Science and Technology, Visual Arts, Music, Mathematics, Social Science, French and Physical Education. Marymount is also an International Baccalaureate World School and welcomes students from a variety of cultural and international backgrounds.
Beyond academics, students have opportunities to become involved in leadership, athletics, music, cultural activities, student council and other aspects of school life.
Together, these experiences give students opportunities to discover their interests, develop new skills and become active members of their school community.
Marymount's Best-Kept Secret?
As the evening came to an end, one teacher quietly summed up the night with a comment that stayed with us: “Marymount is EMSB's best-kept secret.”
After an evening filled with science experiments, music, student leadership, athletics, creativity—and, of course, freshly baked cookies—it wasn't difficult to understand why.
Marymount Academy International offers students much more than a place to attend classes. It is a diverse school community where students are encouraged to explore, participate, create and prepare for what comes next.
Perhaps the secret is getting out.
