Laurier MacDonald High School Open House: “Education today, for the world of tomorrow”

By Sofia Gamboz

On Thursday, October 23, Laurier Macdonald High School in St. Léonard opened its doors and welcomed prospective students, parents, guardians, visitors, alumni crowds to explore its annual Open House. It was a super busy evening and packed with crowds everywhere you looked.

It was truly enjoyable to see my former high school buzzing with excitement as many gathered to see and discover all it has to offer.

The Open House  was preceded with  a strong social media campaign, including a fantastic Instagram reel circulating. “Forget what you think you know, and come see what really makes LMAC Special,” the description read.   Noted alumni who participated included  Global Montreal’s Laura Casella, Les Delices Lafrenaie  owner Joseph Ruvo, social media influencer Vanessa Grimaldi and FitBros Coaching owner Thorin Malaka

In the different rooms, visitors got to learn more about the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Program, designed to help students find a sense of belonging in the ever-changing and increasingly interrelated world and to foster a positive attitude to learning .

Students who perform well on the placement tests will be placed in the honours math program.  I got to check out  Sonia Manago’s math class see. There were many  returning students lined up to come by  to say hello. There were in-person testimonials  from students like one who had arrived from Ukraine to a new country, city and  language. He excelled in math   and successfully went on to CEGEP.  Another former student is now a Navy seal.

Everyone got a look at the spacious physical education setup, which includes two gyms,a facility room, an indoor heated pool an and outdoor track and field training area.

Guests also learned about the many student clubs and activities offered.

Thank you  LMAC  for allowing me to go back in time.
